On lichen, Sven Kretzschmar

Blue tit sings
on a branch, its tiny claws
firmly take hold
of a protruding matchwood,
lichen-covered, barely
holding. The little singer
sticks to it effortlessly,
ruffling its feathers, every
gasp of air a last gasp
ruffling up against nature.

When it is cold, you can see
the song – thin whiffs
of resistance in winter air.
