Food for Thought, Annette Wright-Spencer

A flock of seagulls invade the picnic: pecking through

cellophane, tearing into favorite dishes, being aggressively

competitive over potato salad, of all things.

The birds aren’t afraid of spoiled mayonnaise or bad blood

between family; they don’t care about reunions or vacations at all;

the gulls just want us to walk away from the picnic table for awhile.
