Flight, Kersten Christianson

It’s odd to go

from one weekend

to the next. Maybe

the morning sun

shines brightly

through a kitchen

window. You,

in flannel sleepers

whisk pancake batter,

drop spoonfuls

on a hot griddle.

Like the Xerces

Blue butterfly,

you thrived

in communities

of your choosing,

flit from one

to another, enjoy

breakfasts in each.

It’s odd to live

vigorously one

weekend, whisk

and flutter, only

to be gone the next.
